Had a great weekend at the Urban Art Fair at the weekend, despite the rubbish weather it was an experience I won’t forgot.
up with the plastic sheeting, down with the plastic sheeting, framing up pictures in the back of an estate car, hunched over, breaking my finger nails off, soaking wet…!
just thought id put some photos on..
Josephine Avenue
keeping it real… framing up in the back of an estate
Looking Forward to Urban Art Fair 2012!

I have just finished ‘Eve’, this is the second of a series I’m hoping to expand.
The idea came from a set of 1940′s nude photograph’s that a man brought into my mum’s shop to sell.
The man was very worried about the content of these photos and had even taken them to the local police station beforehand, to have them checked out.
Apparently there were 2 officers at the desk, the first one said,’No I don’t think there’s anything to worry about here’ but the second officer piped up and said ‘But I’d like to take another closer look at those before you go.’
I hope to create an alphabetical series on famous historical women, the first was ‘Leda’ from Greek Mythology, this one is Eve, just as she’s about to eat the apple.
I have been trying to come up with ideas for the other 24… Aphrodite? Boudica? Cleopatra?…. Joan of Arc? If you have any suggestions, please let me know.
Eve has been created on board using a variety of mixed media, the trees are decorated with gold leaf (I hope to individually gold leaf my prints as well).
I always work on the floor, knelt over, which will probably end up destroying my knees! Eve took quite a while to complete, so when my legs went dead I took her out into the back garden with me, propped her up on a chair and had a cup of tea with her, I even ended up talking to her.
I incorporated flowers from my garden to the picture and even found a snail, took it inside and studied it whilst drawing the snail at the bottom of the picture, the snail had mites crawling over its shell, I’ve added these too!
Oh the fun we had!

I have Just finished the next edition to my retro series of work which I have named ‘Lady Luck’
This series of work was inspired by images from 1950s knitting patterns.
I carefully selected the images, scanned them, cut them out and then stuck them on a new sheet of paper, I then began to draw over and around the image, putting them into a new situation,
‘Lady Luck’ was originally inspired by the contents of my mother’s handbag, my mother being a very superstitious woman, I never was that aware to the extent of this until we had to go past airport security last year. I don’t think her terrible fear of flying helped the matter, she made sure she had every lucky charm at hand, from rosary beads to keys, crucifixes to lucky pebbles and even a small plastic baby.
I just had to photograph it all ( please note: the massive bible is missing is this picture)
I had an idea to make a lucky fortune picture, and after the past year i’ve had, I needed to create some luck!
As the picture began to take form, I began to incorporate other elements from our apparent Romany Heritage, teamed with my absolute love of nature and the outdoors, Lady Luck began to take form.
She now sits on the entrance wall to my home as a lucky symbol, a protector and a reminder of the importance of the free things in life that we often take for granted.
